Biden Drops Out Of 2024 Presidential Race

President Joe Biden announced on Sunday, July 21, 2024, that he is ending his re-election campaign.

President Joe Biden announced on Sunday that he won't run for president again and supports Vice President Kamala Harris to run in his place against Republican nominee Donald Trump.

Biden shared his decision in a letter posted on social media, describing his time in the White House as "the greatest honor" of his life.

In another post, Biden praised Kamala Harris and asked Democrats to support her. "My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President," Biden wrote. "Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year."

Biden made his announcement weeks ahead of the Democratic National Convention, set to start on August 19 in Chicago.

Vice President Kamala Harris plans to run for the Democratic nomination, endorsed by President Joe Biden. If elected, Harris will become the first Black woman and first Asian American to lead a major party's ticket.

Over 1,000 pledged delegates have said they will support Harris at the Democratic National Convention. This is more than half of the delegates she needs to win the nomination, which requires 1,976 pledged delegates according to Democratic National Committee rules.

With support from over 1,000 pledged delegates and gaining momentum, Kamala Harris is closer to securing the Democratic nomination.
