Could being a "sugar baby" or "sugar daddy" Get You Arrested For Prostitution?

Updated: Jul 12

The Denton County Sheriff's Office executed a "Prostitution Demand Suppression Operation" in Lewisville which 14 people were arrested on the charge of solicitation of prostitution, a state jail felony.

According to Seeking Arrangements, Texas is ranked fifth in the country for having a high number of "sugar babies" on their website.

Most "sugar babies" are women facing financial challenges like student loans and other debts. Some struggle to make ends meet with regular jobs.

Seeking quick money and a glamorous lifestyle, some of these women choose "sugaring." This involves going on dates with men who provide money, gifts, or help with bills in return.

Some say they do it just for companionship, but others admit the relationship includes sexual favors in exchange for money or gifts.

In Texas, it's against the law to exchange sex for money or to pay for sex.

Prostitution is considered a Class B misdemeanor, which can lead to a fine of up to $2,000 and six months in jail. Soliciting sex, or paying for it, is a Class A misdemeanor with a fine of up to $4,000 and a year in jail.

If you've been charged with prostitution or solicitation because of a sugar relationship, remember you have rights. You can speak with a lawyer and refuse to answer police questions until your lawyer is with you. Protect your rights by contacting a lawyer as soon as possible.
