‘Elemental’ Movie Review: A Chillingly Steamy Comedy For The Whole Family

"Elemental", a new and creative film by Disney and Pixar, unfolds in the lively setting of Element City, where inhabitants of Fire, Water, Earth, and Air live together. The story is about Ember, a resilient and clever young woman, who rethinks her view of the world when she meets Wade, a carefree and sentimental guy. Their friendship challenges Ember's beliefs, leading to a journey of self-discovery and change.

Leah Lewis voices Ember, the spirited character, while Mamoudou Athie voices Wade, the easygoing water character, to life. Ronnie del Carmen plays Bernie, Ember's dad nearing retirement, and Shila Ommi is Cinder, Ember's mom searching for love. Wendi McLendon-Covey is the voice behind Gale, Wade's passionate Air-Ball-loving boss. Catherine O'Hara takes on the role of Brook, Wade's warm and welcoming mother. Mason Wertheimer portrays Clod, Ember's neighbor who admires her, and Joe Pera gives voice to Fern, a formidable city bureaucrat.

This movie is not just a love story; it's also about immigration and integration, though you might not realize that from the ads.

Directed by Peter Sohn (known for The Good Dinosaur), Elemental is a nice, easygoing story about an unusual love between a fire character and a water character. Sohn got the idea from his own life, showing the common difficulties faced by many families. Cultural traditions and what parents expect play a big part in finding love, with parents often wanting their kids to marry someone from their same race.

In my view, this movie isn't just for kids; it's a fantastic story that resonates with everyone. It beautifully displays the message that love knows no boundaries and emphasizes the importance of embracing and accepting individuals for who they love. Regardless of race, gender, cultural differences, or parental expectations, the film encourages us to celebrate the diversity of love and learn to appreciate one another. It's a powerful reminder that, ultimately, love is love and deserves to be celebrated and accepted in all its forms.
