Concert Review – JANET JACKSON: Together Again Tour

Updated: Aug 2

I had the opportunity to attend Janet Jackson's concert at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth. Choosing who to take with me was easy once I remembered my mom telling me she used to "BE" Janet Jackson in the 80s. So going with her was an obvious choice!

We arrived at Dickies Arena at 8:00, but it took us until 9:10 to get inside due to traffic in the parking lot. Soon after finding our seats, Janet came out on stage with her opening number "Night."

Janet Jackson has been performing for over 50 years, with eleven albums and 70 singles to her name. Seven of her albums hit number one on the Billboard 200, 27 top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, and 10 number ones. She's sold over 180 million records and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2019. This concert was a clear display of what a living legend looks like.

At 58 years old, watching her perform so passionately, still putting on shows across the country, made me proud. It made me wonder who from my generation will have a career with timeless hits and endless possibilities like Janet Jackson.

During the concert, I asked my mom if she thought the concert was sold out, and she said, "When you're being creative and having fun, your concert is always sold out." I think that's great advice to live by. The show was truly creative: Janet's costumes and dances were extravagant, and the sets and lights were amazing. Bright lasers illuminated the arena during her songs, which really immersed the audience in her performance.

This concert was part of her North American Together Again Tour, named after her 1997 hit "Together Again." This tour follows her successful 2023 tour of the same name. Later this year, she'll also be performing in Europe.

Janet still looks and sounds as good as ever. She moves around the stage effortlessly, like she's half her age. In the beginning, she sang a medley of her newer songs, some I didn't know. Then she slowed down with her sultry hit from 1993, "That’s the Way Love Goes." Next, she rocked the house with "Love Will Never Do (Without You)" from her big album in 1989, "Rhythm Nation 1814." She finally played my favorite song of hers " So Excited" and it was truly amazing.

The crowd went wild when she played "Scream," and her brother Michael Jackson appeared on screen. Janet kept performing one hit after another. She ended her set with a performance of her famous song "Rhythm Nation."

Janet Jackson's concert was an unforgettable experience filled with incredible music, stunning visuals, and a vibrant atmosphere that kept everyone entertained throughout the night. During the concert, there was quite the drama unfolding around us. First off, the people next to us were sitting in the wrong seats, which meant the rest of the row had to shuffle over. Most people just shrugged it off because the last two seats on the row stayed empty all night. But then, there was this extremely RUDE and obnoxious lady who arrived late with her husband, who seemed completely uninterested in both her and the concert. She somehow mustered enough energy to start a fight over seats with us, even though we couldn't do anything to fix the issue. It was like a scene out of a comedy. Security and a nice man behind me quickly stepped in to sort out the problem before it escalated. Despite the seating chaos, Janet Jackson's show went on flawlessly, and everyone around us eventually got back to enjoying the music.

I would highly recommend taking any Janet Jackson fan to the Together Again Tour.
