Todd and Julie Chrisley Secure a $1 million Settlement from the State of Georgia

Reality TV stars Todd and Julie Chrisley have unexpectedly struck financial gold even while serving prison time behind bars.

The couple announced that they are receiving a settlement of $1 million from Georgia over a lawsuit against the former director of the Department of Revenue's special investigations unit, People reports.

In 2019, the Chrisleys filed a lawsuit against Joshua Waites, asserting that they were unjustly singled out in their tax evasion case.

According to the lawsuit, Waites allegedly concentrated his actions on the family, specifically targeting Todd Chrisley's estranged daughter Lindise. It was even claimed that he went to the extent of sharing the couple's confidential tax information with them.

The former stars of "Chrisley Knows Best" recently secured a $1 million settlement from the State of Georgia, a result of a 2019 lawsuit triggered by a state investigation into the couple's alleged tax evasion.

Todd and Julie are currently serving sentences for fraud and tax evasion. Todd is currently serving a 12-year sentence at Florida’s Federal Prison Camp Pensacola, while Julie received a seven-year sentence at Kentucky’s Federal Medical Center in Lexington.

Todd and Julie accusations of submitting counterfeit bank and financial statements to financial institutions, securing millions in loans from 2007 to 2012. They allegedly presented false documents to Georgia community banks. The funds acquired were allegedly misused for personal luxuries such as high-end cars, designer clothing, real estate, and travel. Notably, the couple reportedly utilized new fraudulent loans to settle old ones, as stated in a release from the United States Attorney's Office during the couple's sentencing.

Ultimately, the couple was convicted of tax evasion and defrauding community banks, reportedly obtaining over $30 million in fraudulent loans. These fraudulent gains funded their lavish lifestyle, prominently featured in their reality TV show.
